Altona Secure Storage: New Business IT Setup Case Study

An existing customer approached BITS Melbourne with a business name and an ABN. We helped turn that starting point into a secure operating environment, a searchable local presence, a lead-generating website and a purpose-built container management system.

The starting point

A business name and ABN needed to become a working business.

Altona Secure Storage began with the essential legal foundations, but none of the technology, digital identity or operating systems needed to attract customers and manage the facility.

The project was broader than building a website. The business needed a domain it controlled, professional email, secure collaboration, a protected workstation, a local Google presence, a way to measure search performance and a practical system for managing container availability and customer contracts.

BITS Melbourne coordinated those requirements as one connected launch. That avoided a collection of unrelated accounts, devices and suppliers that would become difficult to support once enquiries and customers began arriving.

What BITS Melbourne delivered

One launch covering identity, security, visibility and operations.

Every part of the solution was planned around how the new storage business would communicate, attract enquiries and manage its physical inventory.

Domain and Microsoft 365

Purchased the business domain, established the Microsoft 365 tenant and configured working email addresses, Microsoft Teams and OneDrive collaboration.

Domain and DNS services

Secure business workstation

Entra joined the workstation and applied endpoint protection, email filtering, DNS filtering, password management and complete BitLocker device encryption.

Managed security services

Website and local discovery

Created the lead-generation website, highly optimised service pages, Google Business Profile, business contact information, profile imagery and Search Console tracking.

Website services

Custom operations platform

Used drone imagery to map the facility and built a private system for container status, availability, customer details and contract information.

Secure from the first device

The workstation was treated as business infrastructure, not a standalone PC.

A new business can accumulate risk quickly when its first accounts and devices are created without a plan. Shared passwords, personal email addresses, unmanaged administrator access and unencrypted laptops are easy shortcuts that become difficult to unwind later.

For Altona Secure Storage, the Microsoft 365 tenant became the central business identity. The workstation was joined to Microsoft Entra so access, ownership and security were tied to the business environment rather than an isolated local account.

We then applied layered protection across the device, email and web access. This gave the business a more supportable baseline before customer information and contracts began to accumulate.

Physical site meets digital operations

A custom view of every container in the yard.

Generic booking software could not reflect the actual layout of the Altona facility. Drone footage provided an accurate overhead view, allowing the digital map to follow the real container rows and positions.

The resulting private staff workspace shows all 99 containers and supports clear availability states for available, in use, reserved and maintenance. Staff can search the system and update the information connected with each container rather than relying on a spreadsheet or memory.

Customer and contract details remain inside the private management environment. The screenshot shown here is limited to the availability view and does not expose customer records.

Early organic visibility

Website traffic and leads without a social media campaign.

The customer chose not to establish a social media presence, so the launch focused on high-intent local search, a complete Google Business Profile and useful website pages designed around what storage customers actually search for.

Within the first month, the business had already begun receiving website traffic and customer leads. Search Console recorded 1.15K impressions and 10 clicks in the supplied 28-day view while the average position was still developing.

Search Console is not a sales ledger, so it should not be used to attribute every enquiry. It does, however, confirm that Google had discovered the site and was already presenting its pages to relevant searchers. The customer’s early enquiries provided the commercial signal alongside that visibility data.

The outcome

A supportable business platform ready for real customers.

Altona Secure Storage moved from a business name and ABN to an operating digital business with professional communication, secure technology, measurable search visibility and a custom system reflecting the physical yard.

The value came from connecting the parts. The domain supported Microsoft 365 and the website. The website, Google Business Profile and Search Console created a measurable acquisition channel. The Entra-joined workstation and layered security protected the environment used to manage enquiries and contracts. The custom availability system translated the real site into a practical staff workflow.

The launch also demonstrates that a new local business does not need to spread itself across every marketing channel immediately. When the website, local listing and service information are useful and technically sound, organic search can begin creating visibility while the wider brand grows.
